As a kid I was afraid of Clowns! My mom when she used to take me to parades wanted to make sure I did not see any Clowns but of course you have them. Some how I guess I was afraid of their painted faces. I used to scream I want to go home! No fun for me. As of this picture I agree with everyone that it's very sad and in a way it looks like Nick except for the ears. THANKS, Mara for the REAL pic of SMILING NIC!!! We do love the REAL thing! lol. Nancy
lol! thanks mara that definitely gave me a smile! The emotional energy of images is definitely contagious! I wonder if there are any portraits of a blissfully smiling Nic out there!

Lula, thatīs exactly what happened to me, but in my case I thought it was a beautiful rendering (and youīre right, Nicīs ears donīt look like that LOL!).
Oh, and I so agree that when art gets a strong reaction from the viewer, whatever that might be, then itīs accomplished the mission!
Anyway, to try and cheer up the general mood the portrait has created, hereīs a pic that proves that our manīs smile is also a work of art... Enjoy!

Is this a painting? If so, it's really good! The ears are wrong though.
It's undoubtedly a very very powerful image, if it's disturbing people that much it obviously has potency...usually that is how I measure things how much they move me...I don't like this image in the sense I wouldn't have it on my bedroom wall but it has the power to invoke a deep emotion albeit an uncomfortably bordering on painful one...in the same way as when you look at a picture of someone smiling or laughing and you catch that energy...so with this you feel injected with despair and sadness...and maybe that's one reason for an instinctual dislike of it, because it brings those feelings up in us?
Maybe it could be used in the same way as I use dark music sometimes..to purge and bring to the surface in a cathartic way. But yeah, definitely not using it on my phone screensaver! you find the most unusual stuff mara, really thought provoking!

It's true. Often the court jester is crying in silence.

Hmm... clown hate flying on the spring breeze, LOL! (just teasing you)
I think this picture is a bold but accurate interpretation. And thatīs so unbecoming that it can be unsettling.
"Iīm a man carrying a bonfire in his chest. Everybody can see it smoke but nobody comes nearer to warm up". Vincent Van Gogh described himself this way. I donīt know why it came to mind when I saw this picture...
The ugliest truths are said in jest by the bravest clowns.
